Good Afternoon All,

I am working on my first build (building it for the wife so I have her on my side! ) I am at the point that the next purchase is going to be a barrel, but it looks like there are many manufactures.
I did a search but did not see any threads dedicated to barrel manufacture discussion.

Please guide me! What Manufacture's are best quality, best value, worst quality etc?

Thanks!

What are you looking for? Quality chrome lined? SS?

Quality chrome lined, I look at BCM, DD, Noveske, Colt and Centurion

SS - Rainier, WOA, Noveske

I was hoping to mostly talk in generalities as I plan to build more and more AR's.... But for this first build I am not picky about the barrel.

I am building it in .204 this round and it appears that the only thing out there is SS.

Well, going to .204 is going to narrow the field considerably. Yeah, 204 is a varmint/P-dog focused deal so I'm guessing the barrels are going to be heavy bull. I really don't know who makes one. DPMS and ??

I shoot at dogs with a 223, wylde chambered RRA bull barrel thats been turned down a bit. I like pulling the trigger.

From what I understand Shilen appears to be the best quality one out there... but the DPMS has good reviews. I was/am looking for more options, but as you said. The field is narrowed considerably.

Its possible that RRA and DPMS are using the same blanks, Wilson?

Wilson barrels
FN barrels
Greenmountain barrels
Blackhole weaponry barrels
krieger barrels are probably the best but all listed are good barrels
Many manufactures of AR rifles purchase barrels from  machining companies and then have their names put on them.

I am tagging this as I have 2 complete rifles less barrels and am in a holding pattern here. I know I want Rock River as the rest of the rilfes ar RR with a BCM charching handle (Chrome Bolt carriers) but then I know I want at least one with a free float but... what length, midweight, heavy rifle, front sight or none?
