i went to a gun show today and bought a RRA stripped lower. ive heard it was a good starting point. basically im looking for opinions on lpk/lbk and uppers. not sure if i want to build an upper from pieces or buy a complete (depends on prices).  this isnt a budget build but i wanna keep it reasonable.  so far i was thinking of a MOE lower build kit from Palmetto state.  thanks for any advice

yup...   thats a good start..   the moe kit is a good kit as well...   the next thing you need to do is figure out what the rifle will be used for the most, and then Taylor your build around that...!!!   if you plan for this to be your one and only rifle then dont cut corners get everything your gonna want up front.. even if it takes you a little while to save up and get them...   unless you just want something for right now just to get you shooting and training then, in that case there are some good kits that can ket you up and going...

beware: building Ar's can be addicting and sometimes, when some people get to building them, they get too wraped up in building, and forget that they are suppossed to be out shooting..!!!     sOooo be careful not to fall in that slump..!!!

Ps:
A little tip:  I helped a buddy of mine build an Ar yesterday on a RRA lower...  he got a real nice set up...  but he asked me to go ahead and paint up his "Fire and Safe" markings (Fire: in Red) and (Safe: in White)  and then after i did that we looked at the RRA Logo Stamp on the Mag well and we painted it up in the Traditional Red White and Blue...   It made it look really nice... ( i recommend to try it)
we used paint makers that you can buy in the arts section at walmart...   you just dap the marker over the stamp and the paint fills up the engraving, and then when it dry's...  you can scratch off the excess with your finger nail, and then, a lightly soaked patch with clp, to rub clean the smuges...   comes out really nice..!!!

Since you got a RRA lower, you should go with RRA parts like I did recently.  Their LPK is really nice and has a nice crisp trigger that is  smooth as silk.  I also obtained a complete A4 16" mid-length upper from the RRA factory that arrived in just 5-weeks.  Prices for RRA complete uppers start at around $475 with free shipping.

FYI, I used Joe Bob Outfitters for all my other AR parts and they are great.  Good inventory at bargain prices with very fast shipping.  There's always free shipping for orders over $90 and a 5% discount for Veterans.

Did you get the single or 2 stage trigger from RRA? Do you know if there is a kit with an RRA lpk with a magpul stock? That was one of the reasons I was thinking of getting the psa lbk. Also on Joe bobs, all I could find was stripped uppers. I'll look again today but could you post a link if you get a chance. Thanks again

I went with the single stage trigger kit, but the two-stage is also very nice, just costlier.

Here's the link to Joe Bob's Complete Uppers section:

While they DO sell all the Magpul stuff, they don't have a LPK with the Magpul accessories included.  The pistol grip would be the only piece that is redundant.  Just add the the Magpul parts to your LPK order.  I think everyone has several old stock AR pistol grips in their spare parts box.

Also, don't be afraid of placing an order for something that shows as being backordered.  The last time I ordered some AR items from Joe Bob's, they were backorderd, but I still got them in a week.  The AR uppers, for whatever brand you may want to order are probably going to be backorded these days.  As I said earlier, I had to wait 5-weeks for my RRA upper directly from the factory.  Depending on what you want, 90-day waits or more are common anymore to get just what you want.

i would also buy some parts from a local gun shop as well. Particularly one that does gunsmithing for ARs. It will allow you to bring it in to be serviced/installed if you run into any issues if its your first time. I got lucky my gunsmith sells complete uppers for $350-75 (somehow) so that was a nice surprise.

I personally love PSA. I purchased both a stripped lower and upper from PSA. The LBK also came from PSA. I piece parted the upper as I wanted a stainless steel BCG and barrel from JP Enterprises and WOA, respectively. You can't go wrong with any LBK as the parts are pretty much all the same. Where you really start to differentiate is the FCG, BCG, barrel, and furniture. As for furniture, when I got the LBK from PSA, I went with the premium kit to get the MAGPUL CTR and MIAD grip.

Alright I decided I'm gonna go with an RRA lower with their 2 stage trigger and their operator car stock. Ar15sales.con has it for 223 shipped. im gonna check with some local places and see if they an beat that if not then ill be ordering it Monday. I'll post pics once it comes in and a put it together.

For the upper I was thinking about the RRA coyote rifle. But build it myself with their half quad rail.
Let me know what you think and i would love to hear from someone who has or has shot the coyote upper.

Thanks again
Nick

I've never had one of the coyote uppers/rifles before but I have used a few RRA rifles, uppers, barrels and parts in general have had great performance from everything I've owned.

There are only a couple of things I personally don't like about them... 1) the staking job on their carrier gas keys leaves a little to be desired (although I've never had an issue with one) 2) They use commercial buffer tubes (not really an issue per se I just prefer mil-spec tubes).

I'm sure it will serve you well if that's the direction you decide to go.

RRA stripped upper
Wilson 20" super sniper ss fluted barrel or the RRA 20" varmint barrel
some kind of free float tube the i can put a bipod on
and im not sure what kind a BCG to go with

any opinions or places i can get good prices on these would be appreciated

thanks again
Nick
