Hello all,
Looking to do my first build soon, based on some of the comments on here about PSA I was looking at their website and came across a kit that looked like a good deal. It is the 16" SS Mid-length MOE rifle kit. Couple questions does anyone know if the barrel is threaded? I would like to eventually purchase a suppresor for it and figure I might as well buy one threaded as opposed to getting it machined down the road. How does PSA compare to others out there offering "kits", are there better deals. The PSA kit seems like a pretty good deal for $559. As always if there is already a thread that covers this if you could be so kind as direct me toward it. As some have noted the search feature doesn't always give you what you are looking for. Thanks |
| I don't know about the particular kit that you are looking at (PSA has both threaded and non threaded barrels in their various kits) but after much searching on my own I found the prices at PSA to be very good. I bought a lower reciever and lower MOE build kit from them and found the price, quality, and speed of shipping to be very good. I would not hesitate to buy from them again, as I was very happy. |

Not bashing PSA at all, but if you plan on putting a suppressor on an AR please research before you pick which one to build or buy. Most suppressors will send quite a bit of trash into the receiver. Even after very few shots. Piston guns are less susceptible to this, not 100% sure for every case, but do research if you plan to add a suppressor.
*edit* Of you were not speaking of a silencer, please disregard my incoherent babble.

whoohoo my first post.
Last night I just finished assembling that very kit. As my first AR I went back and forth all over the web looking for the best deal. I don't know if the PSA is the best deal or not. But I personally found nothing close anywhere else. In the end I have a complete PSA MOE mid-length rifle for $610 (got in on the $50 lower deal). Toss in an MBUS for $55 and it's ready to shoot. I too wanted a threaded SS barrel. And quickly learned you can't build one as cheap as the PSA. Although the Rainier Arms Select barrel is a good possibility. My only complaint is the barrel is not bead blasted like Rainier's. That would make the PSA kit perfection. The reason I wanted a threaded barrel is I can put a better compensator on it for followup shots. I would love a can as well, but thinking of dropping almost 1k on one, when that would get me another AR is going to be a hurdle down the road. Use google to search this site. There are a few threads on the PSA upper with SS barrel. It is showing good accuracy, rumored to be a Wilson, and you can even see what some people are feeding them. On visual inspection, the upper and lower fit seamlessly together. Both receivers look well machined. The M4 cuts are lined up, and the bolt carrier is staked perfectly. The rifle was delivered on time. Oh and I wanted foliage green MOE so I asked via email, and got a response in about an hour saying no problem. So all in all, PSA is looking good to go. But I will hold final judgement until this afternoon when I can break away to open her up.
