I am starting my first build. I took advantage of the time given to me by Hurricane Irene yesterday and completed the lower. I am now awaiting for parts to start the upper.

The lower receiver is all Palmetto State Armory hardware. Eventually I am going to replace the fire control group with a Timney Skeletonized trigger. The grip and butt stock are the MAGPUL MIAD and CTR respectively in OD Green.

I have on order the Palmetto State Armory stripped upper, forward assist assembly, and the spring, rod and clips for the ejection port assembly. I am having a custom engraved ejection port being made so that is going to be the long pole in the tent. I also have a 4-rail free float tube on the way as well. I am still deciding on barrels and bolt carrier group. I am thinking stainless steel for both.

So here are the pics of the lower.

Bob:

Glad to hear you guys came out of the hurricane unscathed.  Efficient use of time since you really can't sleep though those things anyway.  Nice looking start for your first built AR.  Love the color...OD will never get old.  I wish they would come out with a Gun Metal Gray too.

I agree with the trigger change...I am looking at the Geissele Super 3 Gun now.  It didn't take long.  Firing the cabine today...7.5 lbs of trigger pull is not too much, but just too stiff.  Dad has the Timneys...He loves and swears by them.  It should make you smile!

I can't wait to see the final of the ejection port.  The picture you sent me is unreal, and darn (I know...I got warned by ADMIN) cool!  Make up your mind on the barrel soon.  Those are generally the longest lead time.

Anyway, agree with the others...Nice looking workmanship...Looks like no scratches.  Keep it going man!

RobF

PS  How do you like the MIAD?

good looking lower. I wouldn't mind an OD color scheme but I think I would have to do foliage first.
My PSA LPK should be here today to finish my PSA stripped lower

Bob - Sorry...Not trying to thread jack.

Brad:

Already built the Foilage.  Almost didn't built it since it was a lot different in person versus the pictures. It's a funky color in 3d.  I got used to the color quickly.  The more I look at this color, it starts to look similar to gun metal gray...

Then, the ODs came back in stock...Yahoo!

You guys need to pester CidGrad90 on what the ejection port looks like.  I dig it!

Rob,

No worries on thread jacking. I was going to tell Brad about your concerns with the Foliage as well. I love the MIAD grip. It just feels right. As for the Ejection Port. I am still trying to get the company to return my calls. I am giving them some leeway since they were in the path of the hurricane. But in interest to show off, attached are the concept pictures of the port I want engraved. If you Google "firing on the Star of the West" you will get a bit of a history lesson on the first shots of the Civil War. It started in January, not April.

Bob,

I love that!  I normally make mine bland for sale if someone wants it more than me, but I might have to build a one off for me.  Dad swung up to Columbia and got me 3 lowers from PSA yesterday.  He found out that he can only buy 5 items on the paperwork...Funny, he will be building two in the near future.  All I did was assemble one when he was down last time...He's hooked.

What barrel did you decide on?  BCG?  I know you were looking at the SS or nitrite...Any word?

You should put a small '90 on the upper right of The Citadel...OK, it looks great like it is.

Rob,

I have decided to go with the White Oak Armament 16" Stainless barrel with 1-7" twist. As for the BCG I am looking at the JP Enterprises Stainless Full Mass along with their stainless bolt.
