besides the the side charging handle are there any advantages to this upper compared to just a normal upper? the reason i ask is i' want to trade out my upper reciever for the ops-4

the most obvious would be better ergonomics (as long as you are right handed)
some folks have issues with the standard charging handle, some scopes interfere
with the stock charging handle, to some it just "feels right"

If I had to choose a side-charging upper, it would be the LAR Grizzly. It may seem expensive at $300 (for the forged version, $400 for billet). But buying a normal flat top, a BCG, and charging handle puts you over $300 already.

The Ops-4 has right hand, left hand, and ambi options.

in all reality its the least expensive of the side charging uppers and it comes with the bcg and i would get the ambi version
