Building another AR. This one will be a touch different as I am building it completely from the ground up. Unlike the last couple, I won't be cutting any corners, even if it takes a while to complete.
I traded for a new in the wrap M16 carrier, and I'm starting to shop for a bolt. I have a couple I bought at the gun show for emergency spares, but I was just wondering what the absolute BEST 5,56 bolt out there is and who makes it. I know that's a hard thing to answer and answers will be opinionated. High pressure tested, Magnetic particle tested???? All that worth the extra dough? Thanks guys. |

Thanks guys. The LWRC certainly is top shelf huh? $150, I don't guess that's too bad. It's better to cry now, than to cry later. I have the Spikes bolt and carrier in another rifle. ZERO complaints there. From the sounds of this build you are going to be crying the whooooollleeeeee time hahaha Cant wait to see it |

Coated voolts will work with any BCG - the rings only make contact, if the bolt does at all NiB would be exactly what you want, a hard slick surface that doesn't abrade.
ITS 9310 by ARP gets an upgraded material and nitro-carburizing, great price. 9310 is used by the 6.8/6.5 community to take the higher loading with larger diameter case heads. |

I like Bravo Company products. Bullet proof quailty and reasonable prices. These are out of stock at the moment, But they usually come in fast. Don't belive all the Big name Hype. Paying $150 for a Bolt is nuts. |

Quoted: Most bolt lugs are machined to exact same design, same strength. One is not...the AR Performance bolt, it has 40% more lug to body connection and is made from 9310 alloy, I think they are $100 This is something I've noticed. I went with them for a build because they have a fundamentally different and IMO improved design.

For what it is worth in my opinion nothing exceeds the performance of an original early colt chromed bolt or better slickside full chromed colt bcg.
No scraping, no jams, just perfection. Time your cleaning work once home, the time saved at minimum wage will pay for the part before one knows it. Mine will unlock and drop out on its weight alone. Steel charging handle polished to a mirror also increases smoothness. During a late night test in Maine midwinter at -20F the aluminum charging handle roll pin and/or latch cracked disabling weapon. A long cold hump back to civilization that night ended aluminum charging handles on my ar's for good. Again, just my 2 cents worth. tom |

Wow... $150 for just the bolt... The bolt better be able to last 3 rifle lifetimes in order to justify that cost. Or make me breakfast in the morning... ![]() Taken from the LWRC description . . . "Our Advanced Combat Bolt is an evolution in design. With a fully supported bolt face, our ACBs lack the two undercuts on either side of the extractor pocket that weaken traditional bolts. In addition, the extractor utilizes a dual spring design that increases extraction force and triples the service life. Machined out of a super-alloy that is typically reserved for auto racing transmissions to take extreme loads without failure, our ACBs are then shot peened, x-rayed for internal flaws, and plated with our patented nickel plating process for increased strength and a lower coefficient of friction" |

BCM or DD are both rock solid and proven. Don't pay money for gimicks. Simple is better. Heck, I just bought a whole DD BCG for 116 from AIM on July 4th. DD hasnt been around long enough to be proven as anything but popular right now. Glad I'm not the only one thinking that. Lots of hype. |

There are also a lot of guys putting a lot of rounds through them. An AR bolt is what, 40 years old technology? Stick with a proven design, build it the proven way, and test it using proven methods. Don't pay money for gimicks, and don't buy the whiz bang fancy nickle bolt that costs the same as an old school bolt. BCM and DD aren't the only ones doing it either.

I would like to hear from anyone who has personally had a bolt fail. I have had 3-4 in my life and none of them where anything but regular off the shelf bolts ( one was a no name hard chrome one) and I have never had an issue. Shhhhhh. stop trying to make a rational argument. that will only get you in trouble here. if the op wants to build a bazzillion dollar parts gun, let him.it's good for the economy, er... something. |

I'd have to say the LWRCI Advanced Combat Bolt. http://www.lwrci.com/images/product/large/195_1_.jpg I'll also attest to the ACB as well. |
