Ok. I'm purchasing parts for a build and ran into a problem. Bcm is sold out of the bcg I want (bcm bcg ion bond) The problem is I'm impatient and wanna put rounds down range. From what I've heard the most wear occurs the first couple hundred rounds. The question is.... if I buy a bcm non ion bonded bcg first just to shoot, will the wear on the barrel extension lugs be identical if I buy the bcm bcg ion bond. Under the impression its the same bcg just ion bonded. Don't want to excessively wear my new expensive gear. And... is the ion bond even worth waiting for?

Just run the regular non-ion bonded bolt carrier group. You will be happy.

If you switch to another bcg latter, just have the headspace confirmed before running it. Big chance (as in remote chance something going wrong) that nothing will be off and you will be able to continue to enjoy your rifle.

This.  All of this.

Excessive wear on a BCG?  How many rounds are you planning on putting through your rifle in a year?  Serious question.

Not a question of how many rounds or excessive wear from shooting.
I just don't want excessive wear from both bcgs being I guess you could getting in tune with one barrel extension.

If you are running the rifle hard, you may want to pack a back-up bolt. The carrier will last much longer.
The bolt and bolt extension do become "married" together over time and use,,,,,but swapping in another new bolt usually will not cause trouble. You will see shinney spots on the locking lugs from wear, but that is just how it goes :)
