| I just bought a DPMS Oracle AR and want to change out the hand guard on it. Being that I am new at all of this, what am I looking for? Meaning how do I know what to buy and will it work with my rifle? |
| gas system length –– carbine, midlength, rifle length gas. That would determine what drop-in handguards would fit your upper. If you are removing the delta-ring(barrel nut) assembly altogether, then any aftermarket hanguard with a barrel nut can be substituted. In the case of a gas system shorter than the handguard length, a low profile gas block can be substituted for the factory fsb and the longer handguard can be used. |

It appears to be carbine, with "Glacierguards."
The real question is, what do you need to mount? By adding a quad carbine length, you won't add weight, but you don't get the rails out near the front, and the barrel will shadow a light. Adding ladder guards and a forward grip will make it heavier and move the balance point. Since it's a budget rifle, 2MOA barrel, making it a free float won't improve much: better ammo, a decent optic, and not stressing the swivel with a tight sling would do more. Since it's 16", it's not a 600m precision shooter. For the money, $175 to $250 to replace the guards with a quad rail is literally spending that much on a mount for whatever accessory goes on it. $250 scope mounts are upper level money, for someplace to mount a grip or flashlight, there are cheaper and better ways to do it. Probably why KAC has already said quad rails aren't all that much for civilian shooters. They are really an institutional compromise to mount a variety of different items for a large user group with diverse missions. Like wearing the complete LBV to carry one canteen, in the day, that was issue, and not always the best way to do it. |
