I want to put a rifle length set of free float rails on a carbine length upper. I just ordered a Spikes Upper and want to use YHM Diamond series rails. How do I make it happen? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am new to it all.

You have to replace the barrel nut with the one for the free float hand guards so the front sight base has to me removed for that ... you can either cut it down to fit under the hand guards and reinstall it or replace it with a low pro type ... then install your hand guards. Done.
