I have this on order. Reading on it theres a set screw that gets threaded in the front hole. Ive heard many people stripping out the set screw.

Could I take a 5/16 tap, and thread the lower?

Don't thread the lower. The screw comes with some blue loctite on it. I have installed over a dozen of them, never had one strip out yet.

Just go slow and it will be fine. I have installed several with no problems. It will still wiggle around until you get the roll pin punched in, and then it will lock up tight.

Just make sure you use the correct size allen wrench.

A 5/16" tap would be as wide as the trigger guard is thick.

A 5-40 x 5/16 button head screw is a direct replacement with no modifications to the lower.  It will give you a bigger allen head (5/64) instead of the smaller (1/16) allen head.  It fits in the hole without having to tap it.  There may still be an ad in the EE where you can buy a couple for a few bucks.

Just follow the enclosed instructions, it's a two minute job at best. You'll be gtg.

I have installed several with no problems.  Just installed another 4 days ago and all went well on that one also.  Just go slow and make sure not to cross thread it while screwing it in.
