| Just wondering who uses what: 16", 18", or 20" and why? |
| It's funny because I see most people either do a 16 or a 20. I haven't seen or heard too much about the 18". A matter of fact, somebody at a gun show said to not build with a 18"... But I blew him off and figured he didn't know what he was talking about. But after that, it interested me to see what people used. |

I have one 16" superlight barreled carbine and three 20" rifles; two heavy barreled (one a DCM rifle, and one a standard heavy barreled target/scoped rifle) and one with a 20" light "government" barrel.
It's hard for me to make up my mind whether I like the superlight 16" carbine the best or the 20" light barreled rifle the best. I like them both a lot. But I definitely like the light barreled rifles over the heavy barreled rifles. And I do have an overall preference for 20" rifles in general. My view is that Gene Stoner got it essentially correct the first time around; with little bullets, velocity matters. And the AR is at its best in a light weight platform. I have a lot of respect for Stoner. I think he was a genius. And all the tampering and meddling with the original design has not always resulted in superior results. So, I tend to lean towards basic mil spec type rifles. This is entirely personal, but thats what's so great about the AR; one can make it into almost anything one wishes. |

I have a couple of 20s and three 16s. My 20" HBAR is the one I've had the longest, 20 years, and I use it sort of like a match rifle, i.e. irons only, sling supported, no bench, etc. My Stag 16" is my M4gery, and I just plink with it and mess around with a couple of different optics on it. My 6.8mm SPC has a 16" barrel on it and I built it primarily for deer hunting. The 16" barrel is perfect for the type of terrain I hunt.
Like someone said, get both. I would say get all three but I have no experience with an 18" barrel. I'm going to shorter barrels, a 10.3" barrel is in my future. |

All depends on what you want to do with it.
my pistol is being build with a 7" on a Carbon 15 upper/lower just to see how light I can get it. my 10" is for any possible CQB stuff that may go down (more than likely never used in that form) and when i get back into hunting the 20" 308 will be nice. |
| Yeah I understand that. Mine most likely will be target shooting, plinking, and hunting. I probably want something lighter, but I am also extremely competitive (within myself) so I will want something I can use to learn to be an accurate shooter (the best I can) at different distances. |
