I have a Colt 6520 and was thinking of cutting the barrel down to 14.5" or maybe (if I have the funds for it) 12.5".  My question is the gas port and what, if anything, I would need to do to it .  Thanks in advance for any help.

ETA - I am most interested in anyone with experience with this same set up being cut to either length.  Thanks again.  Also I guess the buffer/buffer spring could be an issue ??

I have shortened many to 14.5" that are still running today with the original port size. I really can't advise you on anything shorter. Someone who builds SBRs or pistols will be able to answer that.

Colts are a bit over-gassed anyway… you should be fine at 14.5.

If you chop it to 12.5 you might need to open it a few thousandths... not a big deal.
