So I decided to start saving up more bucks and purchase the LMT LM308MWSF. I think this should happen here in a few months and then I'll start accessorizing it for a target rifle. This will be my 3rd AR.

My goal is to build an accurate target rifle out of the LM308, out to 300 yds. I will get the 20" barrel on it instead of the 16".

Right now my biggest question/issue is getting a good scope that will cover the distance.

My budget is $800 to $1,000 for the scope.

I'm thinking a 5-20x or the 4.5-14x.

I've done some searching and I am leaning towards Leupold VX-3 or Trijicon Accupoint.

I guess one of my biggest questions about a target scop is the reticle. What kind of reticle would be best or would it even matter?

What would you recommend for a target scope combination to put on the LM308?

Thanks.

I have a Nikon Monarc 5-20x44 with the BDC reticle. Bright image 1/8moa clicks. Like it, but would not get the BDC on the next one, not really needed. paid 520 for it.

Absolutely the Vortex Viper PST FFP 4-16. I got mine a few weeks ago and am in love with it. CAN'T be beat for the price.

I am very happy with my Vortex Viper 5.5-20x50 and my Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10. Unfortunately I don't have any higher end glass to compare them too. They are both very solidly built, I am very happy with the extremely positive clicks on them. The Viper 5.5-20 is the one I use for target shooting. Very clear glass, easily resettable turrets, I've got a target dot reticle in mine which is great for target shooting.

I just bought a nightforce which is higher than the price you listed.  I did look at the trijicons, and the only thing that turned me off on those was the mildot with the moa turrets.   I find it much more easy to use to be able to dial a scope in with the reticle matches the turrets.
