Hi All, Need some help locating a service for me. I need a thread protector to fit my AR to replace a JP recoil eliminator. The barrel has 5/8 x 28 threads and has a .920 O.D. and has the standard black finish. I've emailed a lot of places and can't seem to find anyone that does 28TPI work. Thanks in advance.

If you're not having luck at firearm parts suppliers, try your local machine shops. There are some very talented folks laboring in dark places.

Make one.

MSC offers a 5/8-28 tap, buy it, thread something.

I used adco. But  I think they only offer it as they are cutting your barrel down so they can match it. but give them a shot. This is a DPMS .308 bull barrel. 5/8" X 24 and .936 at the gas block

No they dont have them on their site, but they have a full machine shop and would most likely make you one. They do machining full time in addtion to AR parts and rifles. I think it's option three?? on their answering system, Ask for Steve Dwight.

I''l bet Kenda can do one, since custom thread protectors are one of her specialties.

Barrel threading, custom thread protectors

I had her cut and thread a barrel and she did great work.

Are you sure the threads are 5/8x28 ? standard is 5/8x24 or 1/2x28
I like the ones that look like a bottle cap and it protects the crown and end of the muzzle better than a regular
thread protector.

I think Redtazdog is probably right.  If it is a 5/8 x 24, Brownells and Midway have them.

It is 5/8 x 28 because it has a JP Enterprises recoil eliminator on it and it's part #JPRE428.
