I'm sure this has been discussed many times before but I couldn't find anything recent so here goes.
The only thing I lack for my build is a rail system. Yes, I want it to look nice but mostly I want it to be functional and comfortable. Before I go on let me state that this is for a carbine length build. I really like the flip up integral front sight on the Knights Armament and I have studied the Daniel Defense Omega-X rail. And I also liked the looks of the LWRCI REPR since it is supposed to be smaller and not feel like a brick in your hand. However, I'm not sure if it is yet on the market separately. Anyone have any advice or experiences with the above choices or any particular reason you picked the rail you're currently using? BTW, I don't care for the stock front sight and gas block so nothing along those lines. I already have a Spikes lo-pro gas block. Thanks in advance for any help! |

I already have a Spikes lo-pro gas block. Is the Spike's BAR sold separately? I have a Spike's upper with and it is super light and feels great but not sure it's a 'quad'. I only have only used the top rail. I had a DD quad but never used it because it felt clunky lots of sharp corners which the BAR doesn't have. 7" linky |
| As far as the KAC URX II rail is concerned, the carbine length one does not include a intergrated front flip-up sight. The only put those on the mid and rifle length ones (If my memory serves me right). This is a great rail, but very expensive, uses a special barrel nut that requires a special barrel nut wrench thats readily available, and without rail covers, is not very comfortable. Very light though. I have a rifle length URX II on a mid length barrel with YHM low proifile gas block. Fits and works like a charm |

I don't think I have ever heard a DD rail described as "clunky." They make some of the lowest profile and slimmest rails on the market. Which DD rail did you have? |

I end up buying a Spike's upper with BAR rail. Holding the two, BAR mounted and DD parts just held, I could see I was gonna need to get a rail cover to protect my soft little girl hands. Driving a desk tends to soften one up. And I may be completely off the mark butfrom a 'feel' standpoint I liked the BAR better.I have doubts that DD makes great stuff. I love their stuff, I just didn't like that rail. Also keep in mind that this is a target gun and the toughest action it will see will be a carbine course or two so this thing will spend more time tucked in a safe than in action. |

The DD EZ-CAR is their entry level drop in rail. The BAR is a free float rail system. Not really comparable products. |
| Again, I didn't really have it all that long. Didn't even mount it. Like I said, take my opinion for what it is. I am not even sure that was the one. Both the gunsmith who built my first AR and my brother were making offers on it but I got a pretty good trade so I can't even go back and look to see what it was. |

Thanks for all the advice. I bought a Troy VTAC extreme with the slots instead of the holes on the EE. If I don't like it I can always put it on my kid's gun. Nice. Don't disregard the Larue rails either. They are my favorite from what I have used so far. |

if you like small.. you have three choices i think
DD.. (i got omega, but i like lite rail better) Larue troy TRX DD and Larue are very skinny, and i find it worlds better than other rails.. Troy TRX, at first i hated it.. but it's growing on me.. specially after looking at how sturdy the mount is over the barrel nut. i am actually thinking of getting one for a light weight setup. if you want flip up sight on carbine, short gas system.. you will need minimum 9" rail.. but if you buy 10+" you can fit over middy gas system and have longer sight radius which will give you better accuracy(potentiality not fact) with iron sights. i'd go with 13" myself. |
