I'm really itching to start on a SBR build, but just keep going back on forth on which upper to get. I would like to decide on the upper so that I can get a matching lower and get started on the paperwork asap. I would like to get a 10.5 but would like it to still be reasonably accurate to ~100yrds.

Here are the options I've been thinking about:
-Spikes 10.5: Probably the best priced, but not sure about barrel quality.
-Daniel Defense 10.3: Definately a consideration, but smartgunner pulled their upper deal for now. Not sure if I should wait a month for it to come back?
-Noveske 10.5: Probably the best quality, but also most expensive. Not sure if other brands are that far behind?
-BCM 11.5: BCM only makes an 11.5...would prefer a 10.5. Maybe an 11.5 would be better?
-LMT 10.5: Good quality, but after putting a decent quad rail on it, comes out to be more than the spikes. Is it better than the spikes?

Having not owned a SBR before, I would appreciate any feedback, personal experience, or suggestions you might have. Thanks!

I do not own a 10.5" gun, but I've read a lot about them.

Some can be hard to get running with the shortness of dwell time. Some people have no issues with that. Barrel length has little to do with accuracy, so you'll be fine. With standard M193 ammo and a CL 10.5" barrel, you won't likely see fragmentation at 100 yards, but that doesn't matter much if you're shooting paper.

If I just wanted a 10.5" upper to blast at the range and make a lot of noise, I'd go with a cheaper, CL barrel.

If I wanted a home defense 10.5" gun that might have a suppressor in it's future, I'd go Noveske.

I did a custom 10.5 build using a Noveske SS 10.5 barrel.  This thing shoots so stinking SMOOTH I cannot believe it.  It wieghs next to nothing and has almost zero recoil.

I talked to Noveske about this particular barrel and they said they were able to tune the gas port diameter pretty much perfectly, for being carbine length gas.

I almost think the thing shoots smoother than my Noveske 14.5" middy!

Noveske 10.5's just run.

I ended up ordering an DD 11.5 instead of the 10.5.  Got it from smartgunner.com.  Take a look at it when it becomes available again.  You can pretty much customize the upper the way you want.

I've heard the LMT barrels are quite accurate for non-stainless, chrome-lined GI barrels.

I imagine BCM, DD would be reliable but don't know if they're known to be especially accurate.

I've never heard any reason to doubt the quality of barrels from Spikes.  My 9mm 10.5" barrel is from them.  They note that their 9mm barrels are from Green Mountain, but not where their 5.56mm barrels are made-not sure if that's an oversight or not.  Give 'em a call or drop them an email, or better yet, ask in their Industry Forum.

This! I have a Noveske 10.5" SBR that I run a RDS on. Just for the hell of it I pulled my Leupold MK4 of my MK12 and put it on the 10.5" gun. With 77gr SMK's it shot 1.25" 5 shot groups with bags. Those stubby little barrels john and the boys and girls at Noveske produce are OUTSTANDING!!

Now will you really run match ammo outta your 10.5" gun? prolly not! I run a crap load of Wolf and Barnaul in mine along with a little m193. YMMV

Until that day,
