I'm in the process of building a NY-legal AR-15. I've decided to order a complete lower receiver with the Magpul CTR stock from Spikes Tactical, but in order to make it NY-legal the stock needs to be pinned in place so it's no longer "retractable".
Before I can tell them what position I want it pinned in, I need to know some measurements for each position. Would someone be willing to measure the distance from the back of the receiver (right below the iron sight where the buffer tube screws in) to the back of the butt stock (where it goes into your shoulder)? I'm currently using my paintball gun right now just to see what length of comfortable for me so my eye close enough to the irons that i'm comfortable, but no so close that i'm going to take my eye out from the recoil, lol. Pictures of each position might help as well. Thanks in advance! |

Glad it helped you out. If it is a bit short for you after you get it, you can always buy one of the thicker butt pads Magpul offers.
Really though, alternately you could buy the stock separately and pin it yourself. Not illegal to have the stock until you screw it on to a receiver. What I decided to do after being faced with the same problem of not knowing what the position measurements were. Darn NY, that 3 inches of adjustment is just so very EVIL! |

I could go on forever on how stupid the NY rules are, and you can obviously tell the people who make the laws know nothing of what each part actually is and simply go by what the name refers to.
But for now i'm just happy I can get a CTR stock at all rather than the regular fixed stock. I'll just make up for things later by moving to an SBR-legel state |
