Hey guys I am building my dream AR. I want to build a lightweight midlength (cause I always wanted one) going with all lightweight parts and optics.
Anyway I was wondering what you thought about the Rock River light mid barrel? Here
CMMG used to make one (few years ago), and Bravo is out of stock.
I have heard Rock River is quality. Any nay sayers? And other recommendations?

I just did a similar build and spent a LOT of time looking at barrels online - can't say I have direct experience shooting or otherwise using them.  I had settled on a Daniel Defense LW middy for my build because their LW was one of the lightest, sounded like cold hammer forging would be a good way to go (DD's is CHF), and they had a good reputation.  While waiting for the barrel to come in to stock I checked out (online) and bought a LW middy made by Centurion Arms.  You can check out reviews of the Centurion barrels via google search.  Centurion will pin a gas block on site for you and the owner, Monty LeClair, has been very responsive to my multiple questions.  All the rain has kept me from putting too many rounds through it just yet so no meaningful feedback on accuracy, but they have a reputation for shooting well.

Good luck with the build and will look forward to pix and stats when it's done!

Jump on the Daniel Defense sale at Smartgunner.com.  I was so happy with my first upper from them, that I bought two more yesterday.  Hurry though, sale is supposedly ending this evening.

Good Luck,

D

Looking to do a build for the wife. How does the recoil of a middy compare to a carbine? I'm also looking at the DD LW barrel.

I think my ONLY choice is Rock River as I'm looking for a Mid Length 1/9" twist barrel. I don't know of anyone else offering one

DelTon makes a nice light weight middy.  I bought one last year and without thinking let my brother's wife shoot it.  I don't have it any more ...  Need another one.

I built a Middy out of a DD barrel and gas block, and am having problems with it short stroking.  It almost looks like its in slow motion depending on the ammo.  I've tried changing out the buffer spring, no luck.  Any ideas?  Do I need to get the gas port drilled out?  Weird that its a DD barrel and gb, but still having issues.

Thanks in Advance.

What buffer are you using?  I've got an H buffer in my lightweight middy and so far she cycles just fine.  Also, how well do you think the gas block is mating up with the gas port in the barrel?  If enough gas were escaping from the gas block because of poor alignment perhaps that could result in a short stroke issue.

DD has great customer service.  You can send it in to them and they will fix it for you.  They will fix or install any of their stuff at no cost if you send it to them.

All other factors being equal the middy has significantly less recoil than a carbine. Shooting similar rifles side by side, one mid one car, the car had approximately three times as much dot motion as the mid. And, although they were similar, the car was significantly heavier. 16" Hbar, MI extended rail, for the car. vs. 14.9" medcon, JP tube for the middy.

Did you use the front HG spacer cap? If you don't have the cap in there you need to mount the GB about 1/16" off the shoulder. Pull your gas block and see where the soot ring is. Chance are you've got it too far back. AMHIK.

Thanks to all for the replies.  I did try different buffers as well didn't help.  I'll check the gas block alignment.  I'm betting I have up against the shoulder.

Thanks Again!!
