Hey everyone. I've been lurking the boards for a few months and gathered some information here before moving into building my own AR.

I found a lower at the local gun shop, and after MD's mandatory waiting period, I began my build up. Pictures will follow when I get time! The lower began as a DPMS lower. I picked up a parts kit from Brownell's, as well as a DSA upper and carry handle. Those parts fit together really easily thanks to the other posts on the boards. On top of that, I got a commercial buffer tube and collapsible stock. I ordered a Bushmaster BCG and 16" Dissipator assembly from their website. The BCG came immediately.

All of the parts up to here, I must say, were exceptional. Fit and finish was incredible from factory, and especially on the bolt assembly from Bushmaster, I liked the finish and chrome lining. It took a long time to get the barrel from Bushmaster. In the meantime, I ordered an AR-57 upper from Brownells and enjoyed shooting it. It was extraordinarily accurate using an NCStar 3-9 scope I picked up at a gun show. It never deviated and at 100 yds I was able to pick off half-dollar targets with one shot.

A few weeks later, (and a few phone calls, too), I received my Bushy barrel. 16' Dissipator. It was fully assembled and only needed to be mounted on the upper. I got a Brownell's action block and barrel vise to do the honors. To mount up the MOE kit I also got from Brownell's, I removed the sight and gas block to move the retaining ring closer to the action. Those two vise assemblies saved my sanity! Only banging out the taper pins was my concern, and the advice from this board set me to wail on them until the moved. Thanks guys!

Once the retaining hand guard ring was moved, the MOE set was a breeze to install. The stock is comfortable and the pistol grip is outstanding. I highly recommend the MOE kit to anyone wanting a basic upgrade.

At the range, I shot pretty decent groupings at 50 yds using iron sights. All-in-all, a max of 2 inches once the zeroing was better. I still have a way to go, but without optics, I'm happy to be shooting on the target and in some groups.

I hope to be using optics at the next trial, and eventually I'll be upgrading the trigger.

The AR 57 shot great with the NCStar optics. We're talking 1/2 inch groups at 100 yds. I'm happy with that upper and hopefully won't need much except some rail covers.

Any suggestions or questions are welcome! It's my first build and first real post. Pics will be up soon. Thanks.
