I'm currently collecting parts for my first build. The rest should be here this week, so I'll be ready to throw it all together this weekend.
As it is my first build, I've never ordered many of these components and don't know what to expect from some of them. For now, I will withhold the Co.'s name. My receiver extension tube's machining quality seems to be sub-par, but I could just be nit-picking. If that is your opinion, so be it- I'm fine with that. I know a whole lot of people bitch about the unimportance of aesthetics. Generally, I prefer to do the damage myself, rather than start out with damage from something entirely unrelated to use & abuse. Sides referenced from shooter's POV. There may be better machine terms than those I use. So, on the right side there is machine "galling" that looks like a bit was drug down the tube, as well as some vertical "scouring" (perhaps a dull bit), both the entire length: http://i26.tinypic.com/33mvoys.jpg The left side has the same "galling", but only for about 1.5", not the entire length. Also, the threaded part is not concentric. It is centered further to the right, relative to the center of the rest of the tube: http://i31.tinypic.com/24pw6f5.jpg Due to it being off-center, more material has been removed from the right side. It is only a few hundredths, so it shouldn't make the extension more prone to cracking than another (or perhaps it would?). If this were a more visible part, I'd be sending it back tomorrow. As the part is generally not visible, I'm on the fence about what to do. I have more pics ready to upload if clarification is needed. They are far too large to insert. |

Thanks for the couple of replies.
I wasn't aware that Larue offered a kit. I would have supported a fellow Texan.
I called the company. Within 45 seconds, they offered to replace it for free, no questions asked. They didn't ask me to return the package, much less the tube itself... although there may be a return label in the new box. We'll see what the second one is like. |

Send it back. Yup. The minor imperfection on the outside isn't any big deal, but the thing should be measurably concentric, not just visually. Receiver extensions aren't that expensive, even with "name brands," so I'd go with one that comes from a trusted name. Larue's (mentioned above) comes in a kit with spring, buffer, end plate and castle nut for about $70. |

Spikes tactical also sells a kit that is excellent quality.
The tube/kit is Spikes. The person I spoke with this morning inquired further within the company, and is now stating that a replacement wouldn't fix the problem...? To be clear, they are still willing to replace the tube for free. I'm returning it & have already ordered a Larue unit. |

the tube Larue sells is perfection. You weren't kidding. Larue's machining quality is impeccable: http://i30.tinypic.com/1zousr9.jpg Having read so many good reviews about Spike's quality & service, I give them the benefit of the doubt that the tube I received was just one of those that slipped through QC. |

Please call Sarah for an RMA so we can replace it. Not sure who you spoke with but That's not normal for our tube to look like that. |
