hello all, new guy here. After doing a few years worth of reading, I am finally building my first EBR. My intention with this build was to end up with something that I can use at the range and at Appleseed type events, and try to improve my accuracy with. I am doing everything very methodically and with a ton of research on every little bit, as is my fault with just about everything. My main goal was to build a budget friendly shooter that I hopefully will be happy with for a long time to come. Here is what I have so far, and any comments are welcome! I have learned a lot on here, and appreciate the resource!
Spikes Stripped Lower - got off Brownells for $89. DPMS Lower Parts Kit - got from Midway for $60 DPMS M4 style collapsable stock - from Midway for $60 Hogue Overmolded Pistol Grip - from Midway, $20 On order Spikes Tactical 16" Mid Length LE Upper - With shipping, around $500 Magpul MBUS Rear sight - black –– from spikes, installed - $50 All together, I figure I will have around $780-$800 into this gun, and I'm thinking I'll have a pretty good value gun put together. I wanted to get everything up and running before I start upgrading parts, but I see myself putting on a better stock pretty quickly, and possibly looking into an aftermarket rail sometime down the road as well. It is amazing to me that some of these rails can run almost as much as a cheap upper! Anyway, thanks again! |
| Looks pretty good, although I would have recommended a Daniel Defense LPK: $20 more expensive for better parts and it includes a cool-looking Magpul trigger guard that all the kids have these days. I'd also bet that unless you stick some optics on it, you're going to eventually wind up replacing the MBUS with something a little more svelte. Great choice for all the Spike's gear though! |

+1 Vote for the Daniel Defense lower parts kit or maybe get Spike's LPK directly from Spike's site.
Bravo Company is having a Vltor Modstock sale, these are discontinued model and will be replaced with the new Vltor iMod models, at that low price I would suggest taking a look at them, they have a very comfortable cheek weld feel. These Vltor stocks would only fit on mil-spec size buffer tubes which is smaller in outer diameter than the commercial size tubes. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/ |
| I have already installed the DPMS LPK, probably should have done some more reading first. I had an issue with the trigger guard pin not wanting to go in at all, but other than that and losing the buffer detent, requiring a trip to the gun shop, everything went smoothly. I figure that I will run it as is for now, unless it is a big deal. As far as the optics, I will be taking my time and looking for some type of holo sight down the road. Thanks again! |
| I have the buffer tube and buffer all installed. Now just need to wait for the upper to arrive, and then I am in business. I've been buying up Pmags and ammo here and there for a while now, and now don't feel quite so crazy for buying ammo and mags for a rifle I don't have! Just need to pick up a decent bag for it, but am wondering if a 36" would be too tight. Thanks again! |
