Hey everyone, I'm working on my AR-15 build and i really like the look where the rails cover the gas block and it has flip up front sights just like this picture.

My only problem is i am not sure on what length rails to get and what type of gas block. By the way, the type of rails i was looking at were Omega, just not sure of the 9" or 12". The barrel will be 16" and I'm going to get a nice flash hider, and the gas block i was looking at was the La Rue Tactical Low Profile Gas Block.

NOTE: The picture is just a representation of what i want the rails/gasblock to look similar to. Google is awesome.

which gas system are you planning on using? carbine or mid?

A 9 inch rail should cover a carbine length gas block. If you are using a mid length gas system you will need an 11 inch (or longer) rail to cover the gas block.

What would a 16" barrel be considered? Mid Length?

Mid-length means a 9" gas tube.  Carbine length is 7"

The rail I believe in your picture is the YHM Diamond Specter length (9.75") over a low profile gas block which is what I have on my DD 16" carbine barrel and a YHM low profile gas block and like the funtion and the looks very much.

I would use a 12in. rail or a rifle length (same thing) on a 16in barrel. I think that combo looks the best IMHO.
