I have a Spike's stripped lower that I am planning on doing a pistol build on, with all Magpul FDE furniture.  It came with the colorfill already done, in the "traditional" red and white, but I would prefer it be something closer to the FDE.  Is it possible to remove the colorfill on a lower?  I've never run into this situation before, so I'm not quite sure what to do.

If Spikes uses similar paints that we use to color fill then acetone or thinner on a soft cloth should wipe the color out of the roll marks.

And that won't harm the finish on the lower itself, right?  That's my main concern with doing this.

This.

Most common solvents will work fine, it really depends on exactly what they used.  Try some rubbing alcohol first since you probably have some of that in the house.  Otherwise, a can of brake cleaner for $2 at NAPA should work too.

The rubbing alcohol didn't work, but I'm not surprised by that.  I'm going to try something a little stronger this evening.

If you prefer something closer to FDE why not just paint over the red and white with the color you choose

I'd rather start with a fresh, clean surface.  I would have picked up a lower without the colorfill done already, but I scored two lowers with sequential serial numbers for a smoking deal, so I'm working with what I have.

Also, try not to use anything sharp to scrape out the coloring.  A nylon or wood toothpick should be plenty.  If you have a lady at home, borrow some of her nail polish remover (usually made from acetone).

Or you could call Spikes and find out what paint they use
