First off, First AR build, just couldn't shack off the bug...
So I must seriously be missing something, because I'm at a bit of a loss... I have: DPMS Stripped Upper Receiver High Standard Barrel Assembly (w/ what appears to be a barrel nut) RRA delta ring, weld spring, and hand guard snap ring As I understand it, I am supposed to somehow get the barrel nut to screw into the upper. Herein lies the problem, the barrel nut has no threading whatsoever, and there seems to be nothing to hold the barrel inplace. So Obviously I am missing a part, but I am not sure what. Here is a picture of the four pieces I am talking about. Besides my mind, what might I be missing? http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/3638/dsc0846v.jpg |

guess i need a new barrel nut...

I see threads on the inside of that barrel nut. Don't you? |
|
I did and I am going to send the whole thing back. If they send me a barrel nut with no threads, who knows what else is going on with that barrel, I wouldn't trust it not to give under some pressure.
Guess now I know why I was so danged confused over something so simple. Thanks |

The FNG probably assembles the barrels, he's got a bucket O' barrel nuts and a pile O barrels. It's easier than you might think, when doing a repetitive monotonous task, to make a mistake and let a bad barrel nut slip through the cracks. The company that machined the barrel, and the company that assembled the FS and barrel nut, are likely two different companies. I'm sure your barrel is fine. |
| Actually, I haven't yet run a brush through the barrel to see if it will remove the obstruction in there, but it looks like where the gas tube goes in is a serious protrusion of what appears to be metal shavings into the barrel which does not come out with a simple swabbing, sometimes it is better to just cut your losses and let the dealer/manufacturer deal with the problem, rather than end up breaking things attempting to fix them. |

Am I the only one that sees threads on the barrel nut? Or is that not a pic of your barrel nut? there are lines where the threads are supposed to be, but those lines do not have any depth to them, it is alm,ost as if when making the threads, instead of making them say 2mm deep, made them 0mm deep. |

Ok. Thanks, tough to tell from the pic. |

"High Standard" manufactures a lot of AR parts. |
