I purchased an automatic center punch to stake the castle nut on my current build however it does not generate enough force to correctly stake it. What tools do you guys use for this task and where I can purchase them?

I don't stake my castle nuts. I've never found it necessary.

But a hammer and regular center punch would work much better.

Thanks! What size center punch should I use? Also is there an automatic center punch powerful enough to properly stake the castle nut or is a non-automatic center punch my only option?

I dont think they make an automatic center punch with the required force - the manual method is the best way. FWIW auto CP's ar really just used for marking a dimple (or breaking tempered glass ).

i use an automatic center punch i picked up at Lowes.  after a few dozen punches i got enough metal displaced to stake the castle nut.  much easier then a hammer and chisel.

That pretty much looks like the exact same automatic center punch I have. I assume that they are all equally powerful then; I will have to post a pic of mine up here. It was pretty expensive ($35 if I remember correctly), and seems to be of good quality. I have a spare end plate, I will give it another try with the few dozen punches you described (I assume somewhere around 35-40 punches it took you?) to see if it works for me. I would prefer to get it done without purchasing any more tools.

I recently installed a Noveske QD End Plate on my 6920 and just today I finally went out to find an automatic center punch to try and stake it. My local Lowes and Sears didn't have them, but I found one for $5 at Autozone. Definitely took quite a few punches like the previous poster stated but it isn't going anywhere now and is staked even more securely than the factory Colt staking. Totally worth the $5.
