I am considering this handguard. The site says there is no need to remove the FSB, but will I still need to remove anything to get it on? I  don't see a slip ring, so it's either not their or hidden under the handguard.

What gives?

Also, could I leave the handguard cap on to cover the exposed gas tube in the front? Or, would I have to remove that too?

You can remove the slip ring and spring without taking the FSB off.  You'll have to cut the delta ring off or remove the FSB to get it off.  You can leave the cap on.

What JoshAston said.

If you go to the site below it will show you how to do it.  In the tutorial he is installing a MI rail, but it is very similar to what you would do to install the rail you are looking at.  The hand guard cap is left in place.

Wow. Thanks alot guys.
So I figure the slip ring assembly doesn't go back on as easy as it comes off.

I'm not so sure that I'm prepared for that level of dedication to a handguard.

My logical choice would be the Daniel Defense Omega Rail; but, having never handled one, I'm just not sure it will be tough enoughfor me... just sort of dangling there, wedged in by the slip ring.

This sort of rail requires you to cut off the delta ring and spring.  There is no re-installing the delta ring.

ETA: the D ring is a cheap part. Not worth losing sleep over

Well, to make your decision a little easier (or harder) the DD Omega will lock up tight - real tight!  It's not held in by the Delta ring.  It has four set screws that clamp the rail onto the barrel nut.  (that's an easy way to describe it).  I think you could take the Delta ring off and it wouldn't effect the rail.  Of course you wouldn't want to do it, but you get what I mean.

Like the_great_snag said once you cut the Delta ring off, which is not difficult, it's done.  You could replace it down the road by removing the barrel nut.  It's not a big deal and only costs about $10.00.

If the cost is the same or it doesn't matter I would go with the Omega.  Strong and easy to install without any modification to the weapon.  I think the site I posted earlier also has a tutorial for the Omega install.

Good luck.
