I'm ready to jump into a free float rail on my AR(thanks to the guides here) but I am wondering about my gas block.  The current block I have is a 4 rail that's simply clamped on the barrel.  The LaRue low profile gas block needs the divots left on the bottom of the barrel from a standard FSB.  With a flashlight, I can see that I don't have such divots.  Is that simply an indentation I need to make with a drill bit or it is more complicated than that?  It seems like I can just align the new gas block, put a couple of marks on the barrel using the screw holes from the block, and divot the barrel from those marks????

It's that simple.  Use a 9/64" bit the depth of the rounded portion of the bit's tip.

Here is a thread with some pictures.
