Problem on my lower build. Cmmg kit on spikes lower. Selector switch detent absolutely will not come out of fire position, even with handguard off and just slight finger pressure against the detent spring. Top of the detent pin is galled and scared from the pressure of trying to move the selector.
It is not an obstruction in the handguard hole for the spring. It is not the wrong spring It is not the wrong detent pin. The selector looks fine, except that when I move it from safe to fire, the selector cylinder potrudes visibly away from the receiver. Anybody have this problem. I am thinking bad selector but want to check for easy solution before ordering a new selector. |

If the selector cylinder looks normal in the safe position and only protrudes abnormaly in the fire position it sounds like the detent slot and notches
are at an angle relative to the axis of the selector. I'd order another selector from someone else if it were my build. |
| i had the SAME problem same lower same kits. i did something which i might get FLAMED for. i tapped the point of the detent to make it flatter. than i put some oil on it. after i did that i slowly screwed in the pistol grip screw as i flipped the safety back and forth. it worked for me and i have shot about 50 rounds now and has worked like my other ar. |

Pretty sure the problem is an out of spec detent pin.
I got a dpms kit and used that selector. Still did not function. Then I removed the cmmg detent pin and put in the dpms pin. Worked like a charm I noticed that the dpms pin was looser in the hole. The cmmg pin would not drop out on its own. It also was turned sharper at the crown - so far as my old eyes could tell. The only thing I did not do is take it apart again and try the dpms detent pin with the cmmg selector. So it could be that both parts are out of spec. Anyone else have this assessment. |

Well you did say that your CMMG detent pin was galled up, so of course it didn't work even if you switched over to a DPMS selector. I would just use the DPMS pin (or whichever is in better condition) and selector. Goodluck on your build. |
| Interesting. I tried filing down the cmmg detent pin and that let the selector function with the grip part way on. Thought that fixed it, tightened the grip and it stuck again. Ultimately did not want to file it down so far that the rifle that would pop off of safety. |

if this damn site would allow searches they would save TONS of bandwidth.. see http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=484476 That was the exact link I was looking for to show my point on my first response! Thanks for finding it! ETA: I'm pretty tech savy and could have found the link myself, but a better search feature would have overcome my laziness! I can't complain though, this site offers one of the best communities in my opinion, even for those who don't subscribe as a team member. |
