So many accesories provide for attachment via set screws. Gas blocks mainly as well as FSBs and other attachments. I see that some surfaces are milled flat for better screw contact to provide a more secure mount. An old trick I learned to do when securing the set screws on my reloading die rings was to put a couple of #7 1/2 shot BB in the hole and then tighten it down. The lead flattened out to conform with the OD radius of the die body and the set screw eganged the lead great. Being soft the lead provides great friction against twitsing torque. I have dies that have been set for years and see tons of use and never move. I have the idea to do this on a new gas block I'm installng and figure that some blue loctite on the set screws and a few lead shot in the holes should be a very secure method.

Any thoughts?

I'm guessing recoil and vibration would still loosen the screws- heat could soften the lead and then it would be just a mess.  Probably why you haven't heard of anyone doing this before.

If I'm concerned about movement, I'll spot drill the contact point then use red loctite on the screws.

Ingenious solution to a non existent problem.
Properly used, screws have been used for some time on firearms
