Hey fellas I'm thinking of replacing my magpul moe handguard  with a vltor casv rail system. Only thing is I don't know much about it, I was hoping you guys might be able to help me out. Thanks!

Some folks say they're a bit on the heavy side. Another note is that the continuous rail that covers the upper receiver will raise the height of mounted optics.

I looked into getting one once but opted for something a bit lighter.

YMMV

Modern variant of the ARMS SIR system. Very nice if you want to put rails on your weapon without having to buy a ton of rail covers as well.

Its free floated, which is nice. Its also quite affordable, compared to other rail systems.

Honestly, if I wanted a carbine length free float system with re/movable lengths of rail and/or a continuous top rail, that would be my first choice.

I have one that I bought new on EE for a good deal. I wouldn't say they are heavy just a different balance point.  I like that the fact that I can add the rail where ever I need to and it feels very comfortable to my hands.
I plan on using a Aimpoint with it in the future so raising the optic isnt much a concern to me.  Keep in mind that all Buis will not work with it.
If you have any other questions ask. I have a DD omega on my other rifle that I really like too but I wanted something different for this one.
Excuse the crappy cell phone pic

pros
+ rails only where you need them
+ continuous top rail
+ no modification to host firearm
+ no removal of barrel nut/delta ring assembly
+ bottom portion removable
+ free float

cons
- heavy
- incompatible with some BUIS (not enough space at the rear)

you will need a RAS II height mount for your aimpoint

Where did you get that gears of war sticker? Or is it paint. Either way I like it.

Where can I find instructions on how to mount this? I'm building my first AR and have only the barrel and handguard left to buy and add. Looking at pictures I just don't understand how this handguard attaches to the gun, unless it's only held in place by the rail that's on top of the upper. If so then I'd guess that it's pretty easy to install.

Thanks.

lectoid, the GOW logo looks like laser engraving... check with Orion Arms or Spike's Tactical, i think they both offer this service...

as for the CASV, you are correct in that it mounts directly to the flattop upper. one side is solid, the other side is a clamp with crossbolts that fit through the rails and it bolts into place. there is also a "lip" that the delta ring assembly clamps around. it is very straightforward and very easy to install.

I should have searched, I guess there are instructions.

If you get a carbine barrel and use the standard front sight, you need the -EL model...the M is for midlength systems or a low profile gas block...

Gow logo is laser engraved by the now defunct AnvilArms. I like it too. Was a impluse buy at a gun show a few years ago. The rail is very easy to install and locks up tight too. Keep a eye on EE daily. They show up from time to time and you'll save a few bucks.
