Ok, so I asked some questions before about my rails not fitting and we figured it out just fine. Just needed some filing down. the knights rail system has a weird bump that didnt quite fit inside the d-ring so ya, we just filed it down til it fit nice and tight. no wiggling or sliding of any kind after the mod. fits like a glove.
And here are the pics. Here are the rails and the part we filed down. I painted afterwards cause it was all shiny. http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr7/horsefighting_photos/DSCF7045.jpg Spikes ST-15 lower http://i464.photobucket.com/albums/rr7/horsefighting_photos/DSCF7047.jpg sweet little DPMS bolt carrier group. wow. here are a couple emails i got today from the company that sold me the "LMT" upper receiver and from LMT directly.
Now, the only reason i asked him what uppers he was selling is because they had tags on them that say "LMT 14.5 1/9". I wanted to play dumb and see what they said. And, I really did have a problem fitting the rails inside the delta ring and ended up shaving some of the rails down a bit. From Me to Thunder Mountain Tactical > Hello. I just purchased a 14.5 A4 upper on sunday at the tanner gun show. > what brand uppers do you sell? my rails dont fit and it seems the delta > ring > is actually too small for the rails. are these uppers milspec or > commercial?i was under the impression they were LMT? > > thanks for clearing this up. > -Paul from thunder mountain tactical: Hi Paul, Our uppers are LMT (Lewis Machine & Tool) Milspec. All delta rings are a standard size, some rails fit tight but there is no difference in rails between milspec and civilian rails. Some of the cheaper rails systems may need modifications or the use of a handguard AR wrench. Please give us a call if you have any other questions. Thanks, Jason > From: Paul Houck > Email: [email protected] > > –––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– From LMT to me: If it doesn’t have LMT laser engraved on the left side of the receiver, it isn’t an lmt. We also DO NOT make 1/9 twist barrels. We make stuff for other companies, but we use their prints and material requirements. Therefore it is not an LMT product. Gene Swanson Technical Specialist Lewis Machine & Tool Co. 1305 West 11th Street Milan, IL 61264 Phone: 309.787.7151 Fax: 309.787.7193 Email: [email protected] * so what would you guys do? i think i'm going to return the entire upper. |
|
Your email from LMT is correct. No laser etched LMT on the front left side of the upper reciever and no 1/7 twist barrel = No LMT One more thing, it wasn't mentioned but is the flashider pin and welded to the barrel to make it a legal 16" ? If not and the lower is not SBR'ed, you are in violation of several federal laws and should think about getting this thread and pics deleted. IMMEDIATELY! |
|
well shit.
i feel like a retard. this was my first time doing this and i got had. the only reason i had all this speculation too was because my friend eric was like, dude, thats not an LMT. they dont even make 1/9 twist. ughh...well, good thing i havent fired it yet. its about to get returned. thanks guys. |

Not your fault, mister.
You just learned an important lesson in the gun business and life in general. It's hard to trust anyone that is trying to sell you something. Even friends or family have to be watched carefully. Research what you are after a little more before you make your next purchase, don't be in a hurry, EVER. This website and the members here are a great knowledge base of information. The reason most folks know what they are talking about? They have already made the same mistakes you have made and are going to make. I have saved thousands of dollars on rifles and accessories by reading the posts of members who have already been there and done that. Pay attention, ask good questions and you will some day wind up like me. Broke as a joke |

Do you have more info identifying the outfit you were dealing with? Google brings up a Thunder Mountain Tactical in Boise, ID and another in Lake George, CO. There could be more out there. I think it would be a good idea to specify which one did you wrong so that we can avoid the bad guys. |
| I dunno. there is only 1 pic but the area ahead of the 203 notch makes it look like a 14.5 IMO although the total length does look a little long for a 14.5" hard to tell with out actually seeing it. In general all the gun shows I have been to have had way too much china knock off's and not enough real quality gear. I buy almost exclusivley off the net manufature direct or from one of 3 dealers. BCM, PK, or Rainier arms. I have also had good luck with MSTN. |

alright, got off the phone with them today.
here is what happened. i called Thunder Mountain Tactical, Lake George, CO and told them i talked to LMT directly and they confirmed it was not an LMT product, ie, not engraved, not 1/9 twist. LMT said they manufacture products for other companies, but only using the companies specified materials and prints. Therefore, not an LMT product. i told Thunder Mountain Tactical this, and they said, yes, we buy our uppers from MNM (not sure who that is) but, he said, because it is manufactured by LMT, it is an LMT product. so we go back and forth about this and he refuses to take the upper back. flat out, will not take the return. He states, its in working order, nothing is broken, so he wont take it. I paid for it, i have to keep it. WHAT THE FUCK!!?? what poor, poor customer service. he also said out of the 700 uppers he's sold i'm the only one not satisfied and wants a return. WHAT THE FUCK MAN. anyone want to buy an upper for $425? lol |

Some douchebag engaged in false advertising or LMT? I'd call your DCP and make a complaint. |

MNM or M&A?
M&A has a well-known habit of calling their uppers LMT... IIRC, they subcontract LMT to assemble their parts, and then claim since LMT assembled it, those bullshit parts are magically "LMT". that sucks OP, I would have stopped as soon as the KAC RAS didn't fit... my KAC RAS fit my Colt and LMT uppers perfectly with no modification... |

no, it was a debit card purchase. does that work the same way? also, i meant M&A, not m&n. sorry for the confusion. how do they get away with that spotty shit? They only get away with it if you let them. If it were me I wouldn't let this rest until I was satisfied. To be satisfied I'd need a full and complete refund. Furthermore, since you had to mangle a KAC 2-piece rail, i'd look request monetary compensation ot buy a new one. BTW, welcome to team. ETA: concerning your debit card. Some banks will allow a chargeback provided you fill out a deposition. Some won't. First things first, I'd "politely" hound the hell out of the vendor you bought it from. They might want to know that their company's name is being fucked on the largest firearms site on the internet..might make them change their tune. |

hey, thanks fellas for all the help and support.
tomorrow's a new day. i'm hoping for some kind of compensation/refund from TMTactical through "polite" hounding of the vendor. if all else fails i'll talk to the bank/VISA and figure that part out. haha also, what does "btt for more views" mean |
|
more people should be aware of this shady fraudulent business practice as well as the fucking M&A hustle... they pulled this shit with a guy i work with looking to buy his first AR15, it was annoying because he thought he was getting LMT, so i contacted Gene Swanson directly who told me that basically: "if there is no LMT laser engraving, and no inspection hang tag, it is not ours, but we do build uppers for companies to their specifications from their parts, but they have no LMT markings" |
|

I'd dispute the hell out of that transaction. Welcome to team, and next time you purchase an upper, get a f'n bayonet lug on that bastard. Good spot. OP, tell those fuckers that LMT barrels have bayo lugs and your doesn't. WTF? Good luck, and call your bank/debit card company sooner than later. It will be harder to reverse once they take full payment. |

SO Thun Mt. buys their parts from M&A, tehn resells them.
In their only defense, they bought uppers described to them as LMT, and what "is" an LMT upper? I mean LMT makes marked and unmarked uppers, one says "our best quality", and the other is still manufactured bythem. Tricky line to walk. |
|
update:
i contacted Wells Fargo/VISA and they granted me a provisional credit of $521.10 now i guess they are going to contact the merchant and get him to accept the return or be out his money. all in all they said it could take up to 90 days. we'll see what happens. thanks again fellas |
|
Nice to see the bank is working on your side. I had a problem once and my bank immediately refunded my money and blocked the business from accessing my card ever again. I'm sending this fuck an email- polite but firm, in hopes that he stops this shit with you. horsefighter?
