Hi Folks -

Please excuse my newbie question - I looked through older posts and couldn't find an exact answer to my question, so I thought I'd try my first post.

I don't own an AR, and want the experience (and frustration, satisfaction, etc.) of building one from scratch.  I'm not really interested in building the latest and greatest for my first time out - I simply want to learn how to turn a bag of parts into something that shoots straight and looks like a black rifle.  Specifically a bag of parts that will turn into an AR-15 (.223, iron sights, basic rifle).  In most of the partner sites I've looked at, they have uppers, lowers, etc. but not a complete "buy this pile of parts and turn it into a complete gun" kit.  Can anyone point me in the right direction of a supplier for something like that?  I don't have an FFL, so I'll be shipping it to a gun shop.

I'm happy to spend a little more for better parts, but again, I'm new to this.  Any suggestions on which company / supplier would be greatly appreciated.

I've enjoyed reading all of your posts - thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to the forum.

Here's a list of my second Frankenplinker build.

27 rounds of very mixed ammo into a 30 round C-Products mag., 50 yards, as fast as I could pull the trigger, elbows on the table, thick gloves, windy with -2F windchill, and teeth chattering. Zero failures of any kind.

I just put my first lower together, I agree with the poster above, the most fun you'll have with your clothes on!

I ordered a stripped lower from a dealer friend of mine, S&W M&P 15 for $125 shipped.

From Bravo Company - $206 shipped
Stag Arms lower parts kit
Stock Hardware mounting kit, Mil-Spec - This was the Receiver extenstion, end plate, locking nut, carbine spring, buffer assembly
Magpul MOE Stock
Ambi sling plate adapter

I am looking for an upper to go on it now.  I have 2 different 5.56 Bushmaster carbines, thinking about making this one a .458
