Hey all,
Have a Sharps Mil Spec lower that I dropped a DPMS lower parts kit into & everything seemed to fit together fine except for the bolt catch. The roll pin fit in without any real pressure on my part & the bolt catch seems to be very loose in it's housing. My Armalite seems to fit very snug with not alot of movement. So I'm figuring this can't be good. What I'm wondering is if it is just the pin that holds it in place that needs to be replaced or if maybe the tollerances are too lose on either side of the catch itself. Has anyone else had something like this happen ? P.S. if you have any ideas for a decent M4 style stock, I'm also in the market for a stock too.....I thought about just going with a cheapie 4 position M4 type cause this is gonna be my beater gun. If you have a caliper, try measuring the part of the bolt catch that goes into the lower, and then measure the inside diameter of the bolt catch housing on the lower where the bolt catch goes in. If you see a large discrepancy in the two, then it could be that the sharps lower isn't really all that 'mil spec'. Of course there is a small possibility that the bolt catch is undersized, but I doubt that. If the roll pin slid into the lower with no resistance, you can try spreading it a bit with a small punch, or substitute a larger size roll pin. A good stock for the money, imho, is the Magpul CTR. |

I'm guessing the "mil spec" is not so much "mil Spec" as you eluded to Still I'm ok with it.........It's a nice looking finish on the lower & I didnt scratch the piss out of it |

Looks very nice. I'd worry if you only had to use push pressure to get the roll pin in, and I would consider a new roll pin or spreading it like suggested above. If going in without much pressure still meant hammering, I think you're GTG. I think I'll try that..... I used my vice to press in the trigger guard pin...That seemed to work out pretty good... I have a punch I think I can use to widen that roll pin a little bit.. |
