I finished a build not too long ago and finially got to the range. I threw about 80 rounds of various types from PMC to reloads to winchester to wolf and everything functioned flawlessly, until.........

I had a misfire, pulled the charging handle and cycled a new round. It too FTF. I had a hard time pulling the handle back this time. I then opened it up and pulled the BCG and looked everything over. Nothing looked bad.

So I get home, where it's warm, and pulled everything apart. I cleaned everything up and installed the bcg and could bearly get it pulled back out. Bolt alone seems to line up and carrier has no issue, but together it wants to not cycle. I removed the fire pin and extractor and still have issue. This bolt seems to be jammed and jacked somehow. Is this possible?

Any thoughts? BTW I thoroughly inspected the bolt looking for flaws, anything bent or cracks and found none. 16" carbine length gas system. M4 feed ramps.

Did you try installing the BCG minus the bolt, cam and firing pin to see if the charging handle can pull the BCG rearwards without those three parts?

At least at this point you know that it's an issue even without ammo involved so you can work on it from home.

Did I read you right, you put loaded your BCG without the firing pin in it now the cam pin is jammed and the BCG won't release?

Did you check to make sure the firing pin tip didn't chip off.

negative ghost rider.

When the action closes, the bolt gets stuck closed. Actually, while slowly closing the bolt, it doesn't want to close all the way easily. If you let the buffer spring do the work, it closes then becomes quite stuck. I only did this once as it was quite the bitch to release. I removed the extractor and fire pin to eliminate them as potential problems. Carrier seems fine and bolt alone seems to be able to line up, but together they don't seem to play well.

If I can be confident that it will solve the problem, I'll buy a new complete BCG. I'm just hoping that it is the bcg or bolt specific and not the (extention?)

Please pardon the noooB ignorance.

Take the bolt out of the carrier and see if the carrier alone slides in the upper well (without charging handle).  Then try the bolt carrier and charging handle.  Do you have any crap stuck in the chamber/barrel extension  area like a bown primer or other junk

This does not happen ofteh but I have had experience with a couple similar instances where the problem was caused by the charging handle.  The lower portion of the charging handle was too short to engage the carrier correctly.  When the lip rode over the carrier it jammed between the carrier and the upper receiver.  Like I say it does not happen often but maybe this time?............llc

Damn thing appears to have fixed itself. This morning I took the upper and held it muzzle down. I then took just the bolt and carefully placed it into the lugs, no problems yet. I then carefully slid the carrier down and onto the bolt, still no problems as it all clicked into place. Pulled the charging handle and out came everything. So I reassembled everything, extractor, cam pin, fire pin etc to make a complete BCG. Put it all back together and cycled the action slowly and easily at first and soon let it slam shut. After 20-25 times of cycling the action, all functioned flawlessly. Installed a full 20rnd mag and cycled all 20 through manually, all seemed well.
I am still hesatant about shooting it having not figured out what caused the problem in the first place. Thanks for all the help.
