I purchased an M1S lightweight 16" barrel for use on a carbine upper.

It is chambered in .223

For the upper, should I get one with or without M4 feed ramps? Model 1 sales doesn't say anything about the barrel.

Also, should I have purchased the barrel in 5.56? Kind of forgot about that..........will I be able to shoot 5.56?

Look at the "bottom" of the barrel extension. From the bottom of the barrel, that is.

If you see scallops where material is missing due to the feed ramps being at a steeper angle, get an M4 upper. If the edge of the barrel extension is not missing any material, or only a very tiny amount, pick up the standard upper. (these things vary, not all "M4 ramps" are identical)

If you're not sure, post pics. If you're not sure and can't post pics, grab a standard upper. It'll work with both.

If you want to shoot 5.56, consider having a gunsmith ream it to 5.56.

I questioned Model 1 sales about their barrels via e-mail this fall. Their response is below:

That may be true currently, but what's to say that the OP doesn't have an older M1S barrel?

Yeah I'll wait to buy an upper until I have my new barrel in hand.

Anybody know where Model 1 Sales marks the caliber. I have 2 x 16" light weight barrels that are in uppers but unfired.
The only marking I can find:

                                                  M1S
                                                   1:9

Here is a pic of my M1S.  Its about 3 years old...  I'm sure its a standard receiver, not sure about the barrel/extension.  Sorry for the bad pic but if anyone can tell shout it out.

You'd think that Model 1 Sales Barrels would be marked in the open when there's a danger of chambering a 5.56mm
round in a .223 Remington Chamber. Duh, that's fishing for a law suit if these are truly .223 chambers...
