I'm considering buying a SIG 556 instead of a AR15 in an A2 configuration.
Any recommendations or reviews would be helpful. I like the piston system operation over the ar15 conventional system. I like the classic or commando version of the SIG. Any advice here gentlemen? |

Try to find one used. Lurk the sig forums. About half the folks love their and swear they shoot 3 holes through a gnats ass at 100 yards every time. The other half shoot for shit and it's not always the shooter. Trust me. My SBR 556p shoots sub MOA as a piston SBR... My full size 556 might as well be a .223 shotgun. Same guy shooting both at 100 yards. At 25-50 both perform wonderfully and worked great suppressed. You will be spending some extra cash on a different charging handle unless you have a few spare aimpoints around. I had 2 spare eotechs so... charging handles. I love my 556p sbr. Period. dot. It's an ak that takes pmags and a gemtech and will run all day with no issues. Is it worth the price? Fuck no unless you want what I just described and get a good one. It's a Sig so it's your crapshoot. It's like buying a 1000 dollar ceiner conversion. |

I own 4 various AR 15s and one SIG 556 Classic SWAT. Bought the SIG after the ARs. I have put thousands of rounds through the ARs and around 600 rounds through the SIG. The SIG has a 1/7 twist hammer forged 16" barrel. It shoots pretty much the same accuracy as my BCM 16" BFH with 1/7 twist mid length rifle does. The SIG has a little smoother feel when you shoot off hand and the trigger pull is like a two stage trigger verses most ARs which are generally fairly crisp. The clean up of the piston is about the same to me as you have to do with the AR. Just a different end of the gun to clean up after shooting. For your first gun, I would suggest geting an AR with the classic gas system unless you just want to spend about $1000 more for the SIG because you are the one that has to be happy with your purchase. I don't know anybody that doesn't like a good AR so you won't have any regrets. For the price of the SIG you can buy a quality AR 15, ammo, and a good optic and shoot the crap out of the AR, have a great time and then come back and get a SIG later. Just my 2 cents. |

I'm considering a S&W M&P15 in an A2 configuration. Any feedback on this weapon? If I want to "reach out and touch someone" I have a M14 sniped up. Its not for anything over 300 yards. More of an "urban" combat weapon for the APOCALYPSE.... get the S&W M&P15, it'll probably be at least $1000 cheaper, and for now, you get 5 free PMAGs. so load up w/ ammo. |

So from the replies; I'm assuming the S&W is a decent weapon of a known standard.
I heard these were made by Stag but S&W set the bar a little higher before they would put their name on it. Anyone recommend a good place to purchase one w/the possibility of a LE discount? FFL transfer will be for NY. I know some of these wholesalers such as CDNN won't ship here. ANY recommendations? |
