Just finally got around to my first build. Trying to do something basic M4ish 16". Anyway so far so good, I just installed my DPMS LPK into my RGuns Lower. This was my first lower assembly build and it went surprisingly smooth.
Now I'm just looking for a cheaper standard A3 or M4 type upper. Ive had my eye on the RGuns M4 Upper without the carry handle for $399. Anyone know anything about them or have used them? I thought it would be a good fit for my RGuns lower anyways. Anyway excuse my newbie-ness and let me know what anyone thinks! http://www.rguns.net/rifles/rifles-semiauto-ar15-uppers-556-16Inch.shtml Its the third one down on the page... |

I don't have experience with them personally, but I noticed further down the list they have the DPMS flat-top with lo-profile gas block for $350 (includes charging handle and bolt assembly). The major downside to the DPMS upper is it's lack of forward assist and dust cover (so this would be best for a range gun as opposed to a home-defense gun), and a lesser concern is the lack of a flash suppressor. If you don't need those three features, I'd say DPMS is a safe bet.
P.S. That particular DPMS is what I'm considering putting on my range-gun build, and I haven't read anything bad about it yet (besides those who really prefer the forward assist). |

Thanks JBlanton, I took a look at it but im not interested. I appreciate the suggestion though! Im not necessarily trying to build a rifle for any particular purpose such as home defense or a range gun. Although it will eventually serve both purposes. My main goal I guess in this build is to cosmetically replicate the US M4 as issued. So the forward assist and dust cover are important. I'll pretty much just take it from there after that and add things I want like a quadrail, foregrip, optics, etc.
RGuns uppers... Anyone? |
