I am into my first build and I need a .223 barrel.  I want the best 16" barrel for $300 or less.

What is my best bet?

Thanks for all your feedback....

Thanks for the link.  I appreciate your help.

Sabre has a stainless 16" for $299.  Is stainless worth the extra money?

I bought one of these. Overwhelmingly impressed. Extremely accurate can't say enough good things.

I just bought a 20 inch chrome lined 1:7 twist barrel from Yankee Hill Machine for $190.00.  I would really check out YHM's barrels they are a steal and you can even get them fluted if you look around for $200.00.  I have heard better feedback on the YHM Barrels than the Daniel Defense non-hammered forged barrels that run anywhere from $170 for a stripped barrel to $250 for one with a Front Sight Base.  For the money you can buy the YHM Barrel plus a railed gas block or FSB with gas tube and if needed a barrel nut  and at minimum an A-2 Flash Hider for less than $300 including shipping.  Go with a 1:9 twist if you plan on shooting 55-62 grain bullets or military surplus ammo.  If you reload go with a 1:7 twist and you can shoot the heavier 70, 75,77, & 80 grain bullets and ring more accuracy out of the rifle.

77gr A-max bullets and 80gr and above bullets cannot be seated to magazine length and need to be loaded singularly. Great buy on the YHM barrel the fluted ones look really cool.
