I just got a MIAD for my latest build, and the set screw for the trigger guard front strap is not in the package. The booklet calls it a "#5-40" setscrew. This is not a typical size, and I can't find it locally. ACE Hardware, Home Depot and Lowes aren't an option since they all stick to pre-packed assortments and displays that don't go below #6 screws (here, anyway). Grainger doesn't list anything under #6 screws either. I could order some from Smallparts, but I don't need 100, I only need 1.
Is this actually a #5-40 screw? Does anyone have a good source for only a few? Would it be worth my while to contact MagPul about this? |

Magpul will probably send you one pretty quick.
The size of the screw for the MIAD and the aluminum enhanced trigger guard is 5-40 x 5/16. Several people have stripped the head of the set screw when trying to install it. If you look in the Magpul Industry forum there is a thread with photos of a pan head screw replacement that looks good and would solve the stripping problem. The pan head uses a slightly larger hex wrench, but the screw is still the same size. Coincidentally, a screw from KNS pins is the right diameter, but only 1/4 inch long, however it works pretty good as a replacement. |

You probably may have already done this while playing around with the straps, but look inside the pistol grip itself. My hardware was inside in a plastic baggie. That baggie had the main grip screw and a roll pin to make the back strap semi-permanent with. Nothing else. Thanks for the advice, but that was the first place I looked. I looked very closely (good light, even magnification) and there's no screw in the trigger guard, in the rest of the package, or taped to any other part. I've emailed Magpul about it and I'll post when I get a response. |
