Just finished my first lower build, and RRA stripped set that came with lpk from Legal Tranfers for $170 shipped. Went together in a snap, finish was good, everything in spec., think it was a good deal, but I am a noob when it comes to builds. Got a link for Legal Transfers...search did not help me. |

I'm partial to Spike's and agree that their hardcoat looks much better. The quality of the receivers is the same as far as materials and being in-spec. If you order online you'll spend more after you factor in transfer fees and shipping. Spike's lower locally + LPK on sale from Spike's online: 110$ lower + 10$ tax + 50$ LPK + 11$ shipping = 181$ Legal Transfers RRA Lower + LPK: 170$ lower & LPK + 10$ shipping + 25$ transfer = 205$ |

Fidelis Arms custom engraved lower!! Sorry for the crappy cellphone pic: http://my.project-jk.com/data/1831/medium/LowerLeft.jpg Custom is sweet! |

For 55 more dollars you can get the Mega Billet lower its a no brainer... Except that it's 61% more expensive... For all the gangastas to whom "Monnay ain't a thang" it's a "no-braininer". Fuck it, throw some platinum on it while you're at it! But to those who are trying to do a quality build on a budget, 61% is a lot to pay for a prettier lower that will add ZERO to the functionality of the weapon. |

Spikes or RRA are both good to go. One small detail one might consider is resale. While folks here on ARCOM are very familiar with the Spikes name, some, if not many, in the general population are not. When the day comes to sell or trade your beloved rifle the general buying public will know certain names better: Colt, Bushmaster, and Rock River are probably the most well known names. Armalite is also known to many. (Some years back they use to say to remember "A,B,C " All these other lower volume names are quality products and hard core AR fans know them well, but you have to remember that in the used gun market the majority will not be familiar with all brands.
After 50 years of buying, selling and trading firearms I have learned this lesson only too well. Sure, I will have a few specialty pieces that I will keep and never sell, but the cold hard truth is, no matter what you say today may not mean squat in five or ten years. There are some cool new rifles coming and tastes will change. There will always be that "next big thing". Today's hot ticket will be tomorrow's relic. There are ton of AR's out there and its only a matter of time before they hit the used gun market. Certain names will be worth more. At a big gun show six months ago during the panic I overheard one dealer talking to his partner. They had some ARs but the paniced new buyers wouldn't touch them as they did not know the brand. The one salesman said to the other, "If we could just put 'Bushmaster' on those lowers these things would fly out of here". Like it or not, its the truth, it was what the nube buyers were looking for. So, knowing both RRA and Spikes are GTG I stick with RRA for that simple reason. Other than that, there are many great brands out there with high quality parts. |
