So I got home from Iraq this morning for my mid-tour leave, and after I stopped at Whataburger, I sat my happy ass down at the dining room table and got to work.

http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/94/pa080168.jpg

The upper is a Rainier Arms with a Daniel's Defense barrel and free-float rails, with an Aimpoint Comp M4, MI flip-up front and rear sights, LMT tactical charging handle, and a Vortex flash hider.

Lower is a Bushmaster XM-15, with a Giselle combat trigger, KMS anti-rotational pins, an extended takedown pin, extended bolt catch/release, a VLTOR 6-position collapsible stock, left-side sling loop receiver plate, and a Magpul MIAD grip.

The light is a Surefire G2 LED, mounted in a CAA flashlight foregrip, and the sling is a Viking Tactics Mk. 1.

I was going to have an ambidextrous safety on it, as well, and a different sling, but DPMS apparently doesn't like to keep their website up-to-date on what is or is not in stock or backordered, and so it's going to get here in 2-6 weeks, after I head back to Iraq.

As for the sling, I was wanting to get that Vickers Tactical two-point sling, with the pull-tab to adjust the length on the fly (I have it on my service rifle, and I love it), but when I was ordering the sling, I saw 'VTAC', and thought that was 'Vickers Tactical', when in reality it was 'Viking Tactics'. Oh well, the sling does about the same stuff as the Vickers, it just has a lot of extra length I need to do something with, and it's not as thick.

With the stock, I didn't have my armorer's wrench, because Bushmaster messed up my order somehow (To their credit, the representative I just spoke to on the phone said that he didn't know at all how it had happened, but that replacement items were on the way as soon as possible, with no fuss involved), so I used some vice grips with electrical tape wrapped around the teeth...It broke through the tape a little, and scraped the castle nut, but it seems tight and secure. Would it be safe to fire, though?

Another on the stock, it's very, very tight and difficult to move. I put a little bit of lube on it and tried working it back and forth, but it is still very stubborn...I would try some graphite, but I can't find mine. Any tricks on getting it to loosen up, and is that normal with new stocks?

The Vortex flash hider wants to come loose periodically, as well - Does that naturally happen when it's not pinned or welded in place?

All in all, though, I love the way it feels and moves, and I can't wait to take it to the range sometime in the next few days.

Note: I didn't BUILD build the rifle, the upper receiver came pre-assembled. I figured this was a good stepping stone before I jump into building a rifle from from the ground up (I'm wanting to do that with my next one, and make a 9mm or 7.62 Tok SBR...but that's a while off).

Good selection of quality parts there.

The Vortex should be handtight at installation.  I've never had one shoot loose...if anything they get tighter.

I just got a VLTOR Emod too, and it was really tight at first. I put a little spray silicone lube on the tube and in the stock, and worked it back and forth for a bit while watching TV. Slides pretty good now, but still solid.

I think you'll like the Viking Tactics sling.  There's plenty of adjustment at both ends to take up the slack if need be.  I prefer the padded version myself, but you shouldn't have any durability issues with the thinner webbing.

You got back from Iraq this morning and the first thing you do is build an AR???  Man, that's about the worst case of Black Rifle Disease I've ever heard of.
There were always rumors floating around about them putting salt peter in the food to curb natural "urges" but, you must be living proof.
Enjoy your leave and stay safe the rest of your tour.  You have all our respect.

I wanted the Surefire foregrip, but I just can't justify spending $500 on it, even if I can afford it. So I got that, instead. It works, it's comfortable so far....As long as it doesn't break like the equally 'low-cost' Tapco weapon accessories do. If it does, I'll end up having to go with the Surefire grip.
