Hello, I am a beginner trying to build an AR-15. Just finished the lower and already bought the fully assembly flat top upper. I just wonder is there a performance advantage between a $37 stock and a $70 one?
Thanks, |
| I am in the same boat as the OP here. I have thought all along that I would get either an A2 or ACE non-adjustable stock since the adjustable ones I have seen seem flimsy. I don't wear body armor and I am not using it in any tactical scenarios. Are there different options for fixed length stocks? Is there any difference between makes of the A2? |

With what an A2 will cost you, just go with a Magpul MOE |

The stocks were very loose and rattled. The castle nuts were not threaded properly and you could see them wobble when turning them on the buttstock tube. I ended up getting rid of them. |
| There are differences. Not all parts are created equal. I don't know if I would call them performance differences but I would call them durability differences. If you ever have to "motor" your rifle to clear a jam, you will want a quality stock over a bargain stock. My personal preference is the LMT SOPMOD but not everyone wants to drop $200 on a stock body. |
| I have one like that four position stack which rattled and it bothered me a lot. I use 5 min epoxy glue ant coated the internal part of the stock at the transition from square vertical channel to the 1/3 of the curve. Just smeared a little bit with wooden spatula and let it dry. I put it on within 15 min on the extension tube add a drop of gun oil and worked it out few minutes. Didn't have to sand anything; there is no movement at all. I already ordered Magpul MOE stock, but I going to use it on my other AR. |
