Hi all,

Great site here. Okay, I admit I have the AR bug and I'm going to move on. I have a 20" barreled rifle, with a standard buttstock, that I assembled a couple of years ago. It's been fun, but now I want to change it around. I want to make it a short barrel (16 inch or a 14.5 with a FS pinned and welded), and a multi-position butt stock. My question is: Other than changing the barrel, gas tube, and hand guard, will I need to change anything else in the upper, such as the bolt? I am going to retain the original 5.56mm chambering.

Thanks in advance.

chamber will change with barrel, if you want to keep 5.56 chamber, buy a 5.56 barrel

to change to a carbine you will need the following

carbine stock
carbine receiver extension
carbine receiver extension end plate and castle nut
carbine buffer
carbine buffer spring
shorter barrel
shorter gas tube
shorter handguard

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't sure if this was going to require a bolt change, because of any difference in the shorter barrel. You're information will make parts ordering quite easy.
