| What gives? There are no instructions for an upper assembly - as in, the forward assist assembly and the port door assembly. Can anyone point me in the right direction? |

Place ejection port door in open position. place door spring in position. Use one finger to hold it down, while using a small set of pliers to rotate one end of the spring (causing tension on the port door). Slide rod through. Put in retaining clip. Place spring over forward assist. Insert forward assist in hole. Depress forward assist until you can see all the way through the roll pin hole. Tap in roll pin. |

Got it. Used the video at Brownell's and it took some messing with the spring but I managed to get it put together. The spring was obviously the trickiest part - holding it twisted 180 degrees while trying to work the bar through was a bitch. This is great. If it weren't for my RRA out-of-spec trigger, I'd be a barrel away from being finished here. I'm going to take the gas block/front site assembly/end cap from my LMT and transfer it to a 10.5" barrel. A buddy of mine has a vice so the only other thing I'll need will be an upper receiver block. I've got tools.
As for the LMT, I went and bought a LaRue low profile gas block which means that eventually a 10" rail will find its way onto my carbine. I'd be willing to let it set for a while if it'd mean that I'd have a functioning pistol to blast for a while. I'll most likely throw the Aimpoint on it, too. I've got other plans for the LMT. |
