Is it ok to use a notched hammer with a M16 bolt?  What is the advantage of a rounded non-notched hammer?  Sure hope I don't have to swap out hammers for my new BCM bolt.  Thanks

The notched hammer will work fine with your BCM M16 carrier.

If you had an unshrouded carrier, and the disconnector didn't hold the hammer down, while it was riding the carrier up, the notch in the AR hammer would catch the FP and stop the BCG from closing.

The hammer following the carrier up (even if it wasn't stopped) would be a soft strike very unlikely to fire the ammo, unless you had a soft primered ammo.  As well, very few AR BCG are unshrouded anymore, so I don't know why they've kept the notch in the hammer, but that's what its there for.

Like stated, the M16 carrier has nothing for the notch to catch on either, so it can't hurt in anyway to have it there.
