looking to build a compliment to my 16" AR that will have a longer barrel and scope for longer range shooting.
Right now I have a complete lower, Timney 3# trigger, ACE rifle length stock,...bolt and carrier, free float handguard, bipod stud, charging handle...basically everything but a flattop receiver, barrel, and scope with rings.

I'm going to pick up a 14x Super Sniper scope and a set of 30mm rings that will be raised higher with YHM rail risers that I already have.

I currently have a 24" threaded stainless steel Heavy contour Barrel on order thru Model1Sales that I ordered in May......so I have TONS of time to cancel my order if needed.

Question is....
20" vs. 24" ???
Heavy Barrel vs. Extra Heavy Barrel thats fluted????

things that I wont change....
...muzzle MUST be threaded! I'll be mounting an AAC muzzle brake mount for my M4-2000 silencer.
...looking for a barrel capable of 300-600 yards, even if that 600 yards is more hitting a 1/2 silhouette instead of a paper plate.

would really like it to fit inside one of these with the muzzle brake mounted.

thanks for the input.

Gun show is this weekend, so theres a possibility I could find what I need there and cancel my order with M1S on monday and have this almost ready to go real quick.

From my experience with a M1S barrel, I would say that if you're wanting long range accuracy, cancel your order.

I have a white oak barrel and have been extremely pleased with it. They are reasonably priced as well.

I thought ER Shaw was supposed to be pretty good and M1S was just a vendor for em???

They are not the right type of barrel your looking for if you want decent accuracy at those ranges. Pay the premium or forget it. Dont forget to buy a decent bolt and carrier too.
You will also have to use heavier grain bullets. Go for a faster twist barrel as well.

Bottom line is, you get what you pay for.

ok....Found a Wilson Arms Premium Stainless barrel. It's 20" in length tho. 1in8 twist. Threaded Muzzle for my silencer mount.

Question is.....20" long enough or do I need 24" of barrel???

20" would reduce weight and length for carrying, but I dont want to take myself out of range by doing so.

Its not the length you need for that range, but the quality of barrel and ammo.

A good 10.5 inch barrel could hold the shots in a half silhouette at 600.  From what you said, it sounds like any good quality barrel should be able to do what you want if the shoot is up to it.

I agree with Postal. I've seen friends with stock bushies smoke groundhogs at 300+...one of them using iron sights. I've seen 500-600 yard shots throwing dirt in their eyes while dialing in that extra 2 inches needed. A 400yrd kill is 8 parts shooter, 2 parts gun.

That Wilson barrel is the one RRA uses in their Varmint builds. I have the 18" version and with good handloads it's sub MOA at my 200 yrd. range when I'm shooting well. 20" is plenty long enough IMHO if you are gonna use heavy bullets.
