will the A1 stock need the plastic spacer in the end between the buffer tube the end of the stock?

No, the spacer is used with the A2 stock. A1 stock also uses a shorter screw. 5/8 I think.

I love the A1 stock. True, it's only 5/8 shorter but that makes all the difference. I even put one on my Sig 556.

to make sure I have a A1 stock the butt plate is more rounded on the edges right and is a little shorter.
