does anyone have any experiences with sun devil lowers? i'm researching my 2nd build and i really like the idea of that tension screw to take up the receiver slop.

TI has the same tension screw and they're made from 7075.

You will be disappointed if you want to remove slop with a tension screw.   The tension it takes to remove most of the slop prevents the take down pin from being moved.  The tension screw works best from an accuracy standpoint because you can use a torque wrench and tension that screw exactly and the tension remains constant.  Whether or not that works is a matter of debate.  I have not read anything definitive on the matter.  I use the tension screw on a service rifle and feel that a tension just enough to prevent the pin from moving improves accuracy.  I have to loosen the screw to clean the rifle, however, which requires removing the grip to get to the screw.

If you are just looking to remove slop, you're better off using an accuwedge or o-rings.  If you're looking to improve accuracy, the tension screw may be for you.

There's a new company called Firebird Precision which is putting a tension screw in the receiver that is accessible without removing the grip.  I haven't tried one yet, but it looks interesting.  I've seen it in person, but it's not on their website yet.

SGC is selling their first batch. That's where I got my 2 from, and they are very nice.

i noticed that about the lowers. removing the grip to adjust seems like a hassle. and i would want to be able to clean the rifle after use, (like i was trained to do!).  i found a cross section online.  it looks like a good idea with poor design. i think a spring loaded plunger with a tension screw to adjust the tension in the spring would be a better idea. i can picture it in my head. what turns me on the most, however, is that it is machined from solid aluminum and not forged. the uppers i'm looking at are all billet, (or so they say! i was told that vltor started forging theirs).  anyways... thanks for the input!

Yes, you are correct.  The Scottsdale Gun Club is where I fondled one.  They are very nice, laser engraved.  This particular batch is forged and has provisions for the tension screw and for a screw for over travel, quite clever.  Did your stripped receivers actually come with those screws?  It appeared to me that one would have to find a couple at a hardware store.  The tension screw hole is located in the radius portion of the lower receiver just above the grip.  A medium and large Magpul grip would cover it up but a standard grip leaves it exposed.

I got a "set" awhile back and built my 6.8 on it. I have been very pleased with it...

Here is one I built on a Slick Side Sun Devil and Sun Devil Lower.  The lower and the MIAD grip didn't play well with each other, but nothing that a sanding drum couldn't fix.

Options for rails are limited with the Slick Side Upper. I know that the Daniel Defense Lite won't work nor will the LaRue rails.  The rail I used is a Superior Weapons Systems rail, which is the same brand that Noveske uses on some of his rifles.

Over all, I like the upper and lower combo, nice and clean looking!  I do wish the tensioning screw was accessable without removing the grip.  But life is full of little trade-offs.

If I were to do it again, I would have stayed away.  They were the only pistol lower my dealer had so I got it.  Fit on the upper wasnt that great, has some issues with the gas tube and barrel nut.  The tension deal seems cool until you figure out you you have to choose between a rear takedown pin or a solid fit.  Overall, not worth the extra money.

I've been very pleased with my SunDevil lower. My only gripe so far is that the MIAD doesn't really work. The tension screw has worked well for me.
