Ordered a black A2 stock and when I opened the box its gray, Is there a way to darken it without paint?

They are all that way when new.  Rub some CLP on it

Pick up a can of black KIWI shoe polish. Rub the shoe polish into the stock, buff it out.

No oily mess against your face, no fuss with paint and dry times, and you get a nice black stock.

And contrary to what you might think, if you do a sufficient job at buffing it out, the shoe polish will not transfer or stain your clothing.

P.S.- Last time I recommended this, a little pissing match was started. It seemed someone had to toss their two-cents in, by making a comment along the lines of:

“When I was in the military, we had better things to do than polish our weapons with shoe polish.”

Well I had some news for that individual. This is not a suggestion based off something I learned in the military. When I served we didn’t have time either to polish butt stocks.

The shoe polish trick was something I came up 17 years after I left the Army, for use on my own A2 stock when I hesitated to rub it down with CLP, and lacked the desire or the time to paint.
