Hey guys, I am looking to pick up a quad rail hand guard for a carbine length barrel. I'm am actually not a fan of how the free float hand guards look (I know, I know, I must be crazy, just my personal preference) and so I will be sticking with a 2 piece. The issue I am running into now is trying to get the best rail for the buck. I'm sure I could go out and spend upwards of around 200 bucks on some hand guards, but is it really worth it? I found a UTG 2 piece quad rail hand guard, and so far the only negative thing that I could find about it is that it's a little heavy, and the few bad remarks about them being made in China...Is there really that being of a difference between those hand guards and the $200+ ones that other manufacturers make? Thanks for the help.

I ran UTG on my AR-15 for two years. The only reason I took it off was to go to a shorter free float when doing my SBR.
Mine was rock solid. I felt like it was solid enough to even mount optics on, but never did. People slam UTG all the time, but my personal experience is that it did the job I wanted it to on my rifle. |

I have a UTG rail on my 9mm carbine. This is my "fun" carbine and I wanted to try a rail system and vfg on the cheap before I dropped $$$ on a free float rail system for my 5.56 middy. Like others have said, it is heavy; noticeably so. That said, I cant find anything else to knock it on (other than its made in china). It is ROCK solid, nicely machined and a dark black color.
For the money, it can't be beat. |

Sweet, thanks for the help guys/gals. I know there are some things you don't want to go "cheap" on, but i figured the rails would not be one of them. If anything, these rails sound like they are sturdier, well, heavier at least lol. As far as being made in China (ie, not made in the U.S. which most people are getting at) that doesn't really bother me, especially since the computer I am using to ask the question on was probably made there Joseph |
